CEMS Course Offerings
Classroom Music- 5th Grade
In fifth grade music, students will study a variety of musical topics. Students will listen, create, and play music. They will also explore music from around the world and classical composers. Through the use of the keyboards, students will study rhythm, pitch, contour, dynamics, and listening skills.
Classroom Music- 6th Grade
In sixth grade music, students will delve deeper into music concepts utilizing the keyboards. Students will learn how to read both the treble and bass clefs simultaneously, compose their own music, and will listen to and analyze various styles of music.
Music Exploration- 7th Grade
Students will explore the basics of music theory, history, and music of different cultures through listening, creating, and playing classroom instruments. Students will explore music and its connection to society and other disciplines.
Piano Class- 7th Grade
This class is designed to meet the needs of beginners and more experienced piano players. Each student will have access to their own individual keyboard with headphones, and will work individually. Students will be able to develop their musicianship and complete classwork at their own pace.
Guitar Class- 8th Grade
This class is designed to meet the needs of beginners and more experienced players. Students will have access to their own acoustic guitar. Various guitar techniques, musical notation, tablature and ear training and chord charts will be the focus. Students will play music in a group setting and will also have time to work individually to practice and complete class work.
Music Technology- 8th Grade
Students will have the opportunity to explore the music sequencing and notation programs that are available on their MLTI laptops. Students will spend class time developing musicianship through composition projects and activities.
